"We are in a state of undeclared war with Russia already" | Ex-MI6 Chief on Russia's Grey Warfare

“We are in a state of undeclared war with Russia already,” warned former MI6 Chief Sir Richard Dearlove during a One Decision × Warsaw Security Forum livestream. He predicted, “there’ll be more cyber attacks. There will be more drone incidents. There will be more sabotage.”

Frontline states like #Poland are especially exposed, since "NATO's existing air defenses were not constructed to deal with a drone threat." Dearlove noted the irony that "the world's experts on drone warfare are the Ukrainians," with President Zelensky now sending advisers across Europe as #Ukraine is set to become an arms exporter. As repeated incursions test NATO’s airspace, EU leaders are debating a proposed "drone wall," a cross-border defense for Europe’s eastern flank. Poland, Estonia, and Romania back the plan, while Denmark, Germany, and Norway have also faced disruptions from drone activity.

The proposal, however, faces obstacles, from financing and coordination across borders to political divisions. Germany’s Defence Minister has warned against overselling the concept, while NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte has called it “timely and necessary.” But can NATO and the EU really adapt fast enough to counter Russia's "grey warfare"? And is a "drone wall" a viable solution, or just a stopgap in a conflict already underway? Watch the full episode for Sir Richard Dearlove’s analysis of Ukraine’s battlefield innovations, NATO’s vulnerabilities, and Europe’s strategic choices - only on One Decision.
